2024 Suzuki Dzire
The 2023 Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a subcompact sedan that shares its foundation with the Swift. Built on Maruti’s ‘Heartect’ platform, which underpins both models, the latest Dzire introduces several updates. Although it retains many similarities with the outgoing model, there have been notable changes in its suspension system and structural components, giving it a more refined feel. Maruti classifies this as the fourth generation Dzire, reflecting the many upgrades and improvements it has received.
In terms of dimensions, the new Dzire is almost identical to its predecessor, except for a slight increase in height. The new car stands at 1,525mm, which is 10mm taller than the previous version. However, the length (3,995mm), width (1,735mm), and wheelbase (2,450mm) remain the same, in line with the new Swift.
Exterior Design of the Maruti 2024 Suzuki Dzire
With each generation, the Dzire has increasingly distinguished itself from the Swift, and the 2023 model reflects the greatest departure yet. At first glance, it’s difficult to discern the connection between the two models. The Dzire has adopted a more traditional sedan profile with horizontal design cues, whereas the previous model featured vertical elements. This change is especially noticeable in the LED headlights, which now feature a sleek, horizontal layout with sharp DRLs and stylish cube-like detailing. The grille, with its trapezoidal shape, brings an air of sophistication and bears a resemblance to Audi’s designs, though the Dzire maintains a unique look with its flatter bonnet and elegant lines.
The side profile of the new Dzire shows subtle curves on the doors, but redesigned front and rear fenders give it a distinct appearance. The 2024 Suzuki Dzire new 15-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 185/65 tyres, enhance its stance, and the roof now sports a shark-fin antenna for a modern touch.
At the rear, the square-shaped tail-lights are complemented by horizontally arranged tri-arrow LED elements, which help broaden the car’s visual footprint. A subtle lip spoiler on the boot and a chamfered strip on the bumper add to its sporty character. These elements hint at a possible Dzire RS variant in the future.
Interior Design, Space, and Comfort
While the exterior has set itself apart from the Swift, the interior of the Dzire remains closely aligned with its hatchback counterpart. The dashboard, steering wheel, and center console are all carried over, though the Dzire gets a different color scheme with beige upholstery and wood trim accents. The layout is smart and functional, with controls that are intuitive and easy to use.
The front seats offer good comfort with soft cushioning, but at the rear, 2024 Suzuki Dzire headroom feels somewhat compromised due to the sunroof, which results in a slightly lower roofline. While the liner is scooped out to provide more room, taller passengers may find the space above their heads a bit tight. Nevertheless, the rear seats are comfortable, and features like a rear armrest, twin AC vents, and two USB ports add to the overall convenience for passengers. The 382-litre boot is adequate, though it falls short when compared to some competitors.
Features and Safety
The 2023 Dzire introduces a few new features, the most notable being the sunroof and a 360-degree camera. While the sunroof is on the smaller side, it adds a feel-good factor, and the 360-degree camera, with its 3D display and dynamic parking guidelines, is practical for urban driving. The car also boasts a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and connected car technology. Cruise control is available, but some expected features like premium audio, cooled seats, and ambient lighting are missing.
In terms of safety, the Dzire is well-equipped. All variants come with six airbags, ABS, ESP, Hill Hold Assist, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, and ISO-FIX mounts for child seats. Impressively, the Dzire has secured a 5-star adult occupant and 4-star child occupant safety rating in the Global NCAP tests, making it one of the safest offerings in its class.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the new Dzire is powered by the Z12E engine that was introduced with the latest Swift. This 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder unit produces 82hp at 5,700rpm and 112Nm of torque at 4,300rpm. The engine exhibits some vibration at low speeds, but these diminish once the car is in motion. At lower and mid-range speeds, the engine note is pleasing, though it tends to sound strained at higher revs.
Despite the decrease in power compared to the previous K12M engine, the new Dzire’s performance is satisfactory for daily driving. The car delivers good low-speed throttle response, and power builds up smoothly. While the engine isn’t particularly lively, it remains capable of revving beyond 5,000rpm. However, in a quick sprint from 0-100kph, the Dzire takes over 13 seconds, which is slower than its predecessor.
The upside of the new engine is its improved efficiency. The 2024 Suzuki Dzire manual variant claims a fuel efficiency of 24.79kpl, while the AMT version promises 25.71kpl. There’s also a CNG variant that delivers 33.73 km/kg, though its performance figures are slightly lower.
Ride and Handling
The Dzire carries over the McPherson struts at the front and torsion beam suspension at the rear from the Swift. Although the suspension has been slightly tweaked to accommodate the Dzire’s added weight, the ride quality remains one of its strengths. The sedan absorbs bumps and potholes with ease, making it comfortable for city driving while still maintaining a sporty edge.
Price and Verdict
With a price range of Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 10.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire offers a balanced package of style, comfort, and safety. It rides well, handles confidently, and is equipped with several modern features. Its claim to fame as Maruti Suzuki’s first 5-star GNCAP rated car further enhances its appeal. While it may not be the most powerful sedan in its class, its fuel efficiency and refinement make it a strong contender for those seeking an everyday sedan with added flair.
